We are currently searching for dancers of all ages and abilities to train, perform and collaborate to create new choreographic works with the Voices Dance Project
Auditions will be held on July 14, 2025 at Ottawa Dance Directive - Studio B (2 Daly Ave - in Arts Court)

For a membership fee* of $50-$60 a month, members:
Share the cost of renting rehearsal and training space;
Get 4 hours a week of dance training and rehearsal focused on contemporary dance, with exploration of other dance styles from around the world;
Explore new dance styles, techniques and disciplines;
Access Support, mentorship, resources, and space to produce new works;
Create in collaboration with other artists (visual artists, composers, musicians, poets, etc);
Perform in innovative new works on stage, in film and in multimedia productions;
Work together to fundraise to make projects possible; &
Create in a supportive, accessibility-informed, wellness-oriented, anti-colonial environment.
You should apply if you:
Are a dancer over 18 with extensive experience training and performing in
ballet;
modern dance;
contemporary dance;
commercial or street dance (hip hop, dancehall, heels, popping, jazz etc);
indigenous dance styles; or
traditional dance styles from around the world (ex. Belly dance, flamenco, folkloric dance, kathak, etc);
Are available to train Monday & Wednesday evenings between 7:00-9:30pm;
Have ideas for creating new choreographic works or are excited to collaborative with other artists bring their visions to life;
Are willing to volunteer regularly to make workshops, performances, and projects possible;
Are committed to working in a safe, accessible, anti-colonial, & empathetic environment.
*Voices Dance Project is a federally-incorporated not-for profit. All membership fees go towards training and making member's projects possible. Membership fees are payable on a sliding scale to ensure accessibility.
Audition format
You don't need to prepare anything for the auditions. The auditions will last about 2 hours and will involve:
A group "get-to-know-you" discussion;
Breathing exercise to get everyone calm and centered;
Warm up;
Collaborative creation exercises to see how you work with others;
Guided improvisation to see how you move in your own style of dance and work with other dancers;
Cool down.

We are an interdisciplinary arts collective that aims to empower dancers and choreographers in the National Capital Region to train, perform, and stage collaborative choreographic projects.
We unite experienced dancers of all body types, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, genders and sexual identities with the tools they need to bring their artistic visions to audiences in the National Capital Region.
We explore how dance can illuminate social issues and challenge existing dance structures and institutions.
We embrace new techniques to expand beyond our comfort zones and seek inspiration from multiple sources
The desire to create a welcoming space centered around empathy, diligence, accessibility, community and purposeful creation. 4 hours a week of dance training and rehearsal focused on contemporary dance, with exploration of other dance styles from around the world;

You should get involved if...
You have extensive experience training and performing in ballet, modern dance, contemporary dance, commercial or street dance, indigenous dance styles or traditional dance styles from around the world;
You are interested in bringing together various styles of dance;
You can commit to diligently training and rehearsing for 2 hours 2x/week;
You can commit to volunteering regularly to help make workshops, performances, and collaborative projects possible (i.e.: Running social media accounts, designing posters, contributing to drafting grant applications, setting up/tearing down spaces, teaching workshops etc);
You are available to train Monday & Wednesday evenings between 7:00-9:30pm;
You are committed to creating in a safe, accessible, anti-colonial, empathetic environment; and
You have ideas for creating new works, or are excited to be a part of a team to make each other's visions come to life

Since Voices is a non profit, your membership fees go exclusively towards making our training and our creative projects possible.
Membership fees cover the cost of renting studio space, the cost of bringing in guest teachers and guests artists, and part of production costs.
Voices is committed to making dance training financially accessible. Our membership fee is priced on a sliding scale, on a “pay what you can” basis. Please contact us to discuss how we can make membership possible for you.
